Are you Delicious? Social Bookmarks

Delicious.com is a social bookmarking service.

Save your bookmarks and access them from any computer. Work, school, home, on the road with your mobile device - all your favorite sites are always available. You can keep some bookmarks private or share them with everyone.

Use tags and make it easier to find your own information or other web sites saved by Delicious users.

iPhone - there are Delicious apps for the iPhone, but if you are like me you have run out of "app room."

SOLUTION: use Delicious from a "multi-use" app.

Check out these 2 apps-

The Yahoo! iPhone app

The Mobi iNet app

This app will connect you to a vast number of web sites optimized for mobile device users. If you are surfing the web, you don't have enough screen space to look at a 3 column web page.

*** Keep this in mind entrepreneurs, would your business benefit from people from people reading your page while they are stuck on mass transit, waiting in line or passing the minutes?

Here are the links to delicious.com from the Mobi iNet app.

Go into the Mobi iNet app and select the Social Networks catagory.

I had one of the Delicious specific apps on my iPhone, but deleted it in favor of the multi-function app. On the other hand, you can get to Flickr with the multi-app, but I prefer the Flickr app.

So go sign up for Delicious - it's free!

Where to find information about marbles

In an attempt to learn all I could about vintage marble identification, there were several websites worth noting.

LandofMarbles.com has a variety of pictures from numerous manufacturers.

For more excellent pictures check out CollectableMarbles.com. Scroll down this page to find the links to individual manufacturer pages.

MUST SEE - marblealan.com has a great guide and pictures to help you describe chip, nicks, scratches and other types of glass marble damage.

BargainBin and AppConnect - iPhone app reviews

BargainBin offers free and reduced iPhone apps. There is a feature that will let you "watch" apps and get a notification when it goes on sale. Sort apps by what's popular or by what's new.

Both of these apps are free so check these out.

AppConnect offers more free and reduced price apps. There are a lot of apps listed that have a price reduction at one time or another. Get them on sale. Soon you will have too many!

AppConnect also features recommend apps from friends.

I'll be your friend on AppConnect! Look for phoenix2000.

TweetMonitor - iPhone app review

TweetMonitor - got this app on sale for 99 cents. It searches Twitter for specific words or terms. Save individual tweets from those streams if you wish.

Use the screenshot function of the iPhone to save your information.

Then you get a list of people who tweeted about a flu shot and the word sick.

You can do this this through a web site, but this gives you a handy app and the ability to quickly bring up the information you have saved.

Why wouldn't Facebook let me print this?

What, because something says "no" you think that's gonna stop me?!? If I had THAT attitude in life I wouldn't have gotten anything. (Click on the pictures to make them bigger.)

Went to post a disturbing dream to Facebook and it wouldn't go through. Content, Flickr link, the term FOAD or the word mojo - what reason.

Well, here's the screen shots. Turned a 5 minute post into a half hour project.

Here's a link to the Humboldt Plant, Johnson Controls, Flickr picture.

Rainy weekend but work-free

2:35 AM and it's raining and storming, the sky keeps getting puncuated by light. Hurricane Bill is coming through.

There really is something to be said for a tropical breeze, even when it hits New Jersey.

Why does God help people you don't like?

"God reserves the right to bless those with whom I disagree."

That's what Dr. Robert A. Cook said on www.familyradio.com today.

God will and can do things for people we do not like. What if they are wrong and what if they are bad?

Dr. Cook says it's because he's God and that is part of his plan.

Check the program schedule for Dr. Cook's show, "Walk With The King". It's about 10 minutes long and most of the time I hear something in every episode that brings value to my life.

Changing my life through TM

Peace is in my life again.

I go into the world and look at people like they are Susan Boyle, people with a talent or a gift that I can learn from or share.

This is so much better that wondering who is a son of a ... waiting to stab me in the back.

I'm doing Transcendental Meditation again. Turn everything off for 20 minutes twice a day. Turn off the TV, the cell phone and the computer(s). Sit in a comfortable chair and think about NOTHING.

Imagine you are standing over a small, 5 foot wide shallow creek. There are a few stones on the bottom of the creek. Clear water slowly flows through. Occasionally you see leaves floating on the surface of the creek. You don't focus on the leaves, you don't obsess on the leaves. You let your attention gently go back to a rock, on the bottom of the creek. Just let the leaves float by.

The creek is your "stream of consciousness", the stone at the bottom is your mantra and the leaves are the problems, issues, concerns and events in your life.

Transcendental Meditation became popular in the late 1960s when the Beatles went to India to learn it from the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. My family took the course in 1975 and did it faithfully for several months.

At that time, TM gave me peace in my soul. My senses were actually enhanced - colors seemed more vivid, smells came alive and I could hear the beauty in the songs of birds. More important, I learned to look at everyone I met as someone who could be a new friend, as opposed to a new threat. I had optimism and HOPE.

Like everyone else they have a web site! Visit www.tm.org. Read about TM and learn about the benefits.

The course is expensive, but there are rates for couples and people with economic hardships. In my opinion you WILL get your money back with dividends through peace and tranquility.

I have spent thousands of dollars and days looking for enlightenment. I didn't think enough of myself to spend 20 minutes twice a day to meditate.

There is HOPE in my life again, and IMHO that's priceless.

Twitter Overload - filter tweets with TweetDeck

Greetings!

Save the tweets you need and toss the rest!

Do you have Twitter overload? Here's a suggestion.

I use TweetDeck - it's FREE and it has features I use: filtering, copy tweets to Facebook and more.

Use TweetDeck to eliminate messages you have no interest in reading. You can also use the filtering function to find out what people said about Adam from American Idol as well.

The phoenix2000us go-kart track - Annelie, Second Life

This is a go-kart track I set up on my property in Annelie, in Second Life. The signs along the track can accept ads - just like NASCAR!

If you have a fast computer with a good video card you can install Second Life and visit me - here is the link.

Ground level tour - Annelie, Second Life

Showing folks around in Second Life. It's free - secondlife.com... but you need a good net connection and a good graphics card.

Here's a short tour of my Annelie, Second Life property. This is one of the RSS readers I have on the property. The video screen needs to be adjusted. Maybe I'll go see the creator and make a video of it.

Use Twitter to Find a Job

Useful links to use or pass along.

jobshouts.com/

Do a search on your area or the job you are looking for. It's kind of a "Best Match" but look through the results and some matches come up. Worth a look.

www.twitterjobsearch.com/

A lot of jobs came up with this one, but what's better is that it gives you a lot of places to follow on Twitter.

www.jobangels.org

Mentors to help other people get jobs. WOW! If you have a job, this would be a POWERFUL way to help another person.

Check out jobangles.org and make a difference.

Wrestling with Twitter

It's the latest trend - TWITTER!

Ok, so you figure out what it is, a 140 character instant message blasted to followers... but what do you do with it?

It's social networking! Use Twitter and you can "get to know people", based on their 140 character "tweets". I hope that doesn't put any undue pressure on you! Don't tweet some crap and screw up your business deal.

If you Tweet about lounging with the Sunday Times, will the faithful think you're skipping Services? Will cat lovers look at you the same when you gush about a puppy?

I've been messing around with computers since the days of BBSes and 300 baud modems on the Commodore. Twitter made me feel like I was back in 1985 again.

"So you have to go on the Internet."

"I go to BBSes. Ain't that it?"

"You go on the Internet and you surf from place to place."

"Surf... like a surf board? I have to keep redialing?? This is Wisconsin, I don't know about surfing!!"

"I don't know. You can make a web page."

"What's a web page?"

"I don't know, it's like a flyer on the board in the grocery store. People can read it."

"Read what? Who's gonna sit in the house all day?"

Well, I learned to "think outside of the box". My friend above didn't and that's why he doesn't use a computer like a vital organ.

So I get on Twitter and start following people. What do they write???

- A lot of people write about Twitter. I picked up a lot more info about Twitter applications. I'll be sharing more on that.

- Spreading the agenda. People can communicate and mobilize. Twitter your friend instead of a DM (Direct Message) and you can educate all your Tweet on the concept of dolphin-free tuna.

- RT (ReTweets) Ok, I don't know how I feel about this one. There's some folks who do RT a lot but do you want to discourage them and have them start a potty training tweet fest? There IS a lot of pressure to write a 140 character ice-breaker at a party of people you can't read (get real life social and physical cues as to their mood.) ... Oh, and I notice you guys who send out the same tweet 4 hours and 8 hours later. The first few times I thought my amnesia was reoccurring. ;)

- Tweet the mundane. Glad to hear you're hitting the Post Office! :) I'm guilty myself:

phoenix2000us Posted at 4:29pm, Mar 26, 2009 from Web

Just got a recorded call from COSTCO. Cranberry nut mix recall, salmonella. Ate it but 5*s for the warning!

Ha ha. I'm always tempted to go mundane with a touch of TMI.

This snippet from the New York Times says it well:

An unabashed user of ghost Twitterers is Guy Kawasaki, a new-media consultant with more than 80,000 followers, who is full of praise for the two employees who enliven his Twitter feed, often posting updates while he is on stage addressing a conference.

“Basically, for 99.9 percent of people on Twitter, it is about updating friends and colleagues about how the cat rolled over,” he said. “For a tenth of a percent it is a marketing tool.”

- Share useful information - Actually, all snarkiness aside, I've been tossed "pearls of wisdom" from all of the people I follow. A lot of people ARE being generous with their expertise and there is a lot to be learned.

Follow the right people on Twitter, learn from their links and you can gain a lot of knowledge.

I just hope I have enough time and enough brain!

Paul Harvey helped me win $8000

Paul Harvey died. Listening to him made me some money.

Read what the New York Times says here.

I grew up in the Midwest in the 70s. My Father would listen to his "plain talk" newscasts every day at a quarter to Noon.

A decade or so later, Mr. Harvey started his "The Rest of the Story" series.

One such tale told about an officer on an atomic submarine, sent to fix a malfunctioning reactor, succeeding at the task and averting disaster.

But later in the Navel officer's life people really don't know about that. They love him because he built houses for poor people and brought some peace to the Middle East. Others hate him for the discussing the malaise of America. This man is former US President Jimmy Carter.

Fast forward a few decades...

So I'm in New York City, sitting on a stool surrounded by a circle of a hundred people or so. Meredith Vieira is sitting across from me and says, "Mark, for $8000, which US President attended the US Naval Academy, Lyndon Johnson, Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford or Jimmy Carter?"

Out the things that race through your brain as you sit on the surreal set of "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire" Paul Harvey's contribution to a 98% educated guess kept me in the game to win $25,000.

Thank you Mr. Harvey and THANK YOU, US Navel Academy graduate, President Jimmy Carter. Two examples of how the actions of one person, can affect so many lives.

And now you know - the Rest of the Story.
